Solar installation

What is a solar installation?

A solar installation combines solar panels, an inverter, electrical protection and optional battery storage to supply electricity according to the approved system design.

How is a solar system sized?

Sizing considers electricity use, load timing, property conditions, available space, backup priorities, equipment ratings and future requirements.

Can solar work during an outage?

A standard grid-tied system usually does not provide backup during an outage. A suitable hybrid or battery-backed design may support selected loads.

02 · FAQ GROUP

Battery storage

How long will a battery last during an outage?

Runtime depends on usable battery energy, connected loads, startup demand, simultaneous use, settings and whether solar can recharge the system.

Can batteries work without solar panels?

Yes. A compatible inverter and battery system can provide backup without solar, with panels potentially added later where the design allows.

Can I add a battery to an existing system?

Potentially. Compatibility, firmware, communication, electrical capacity, warranties and the original design must be reviewed.

03 · FAQ GROUP

Repairs and maintenance

Can an inverter error be diagnosed remotely?

Some faults can be narrowed down using error codes, model information, monitoring and photographs. Others require on-site testing.

Why is solar production lower than before?

Possible causes include weather, shading, dirt, connection faults, array problems, inverter limits, monitoring issues or configuration changes.

Does maintenance only mean cleaning panels?

No. Maintenance may also include inspection of panels, inverter, batteries, protection, cabling, monitoring and system records.

04 · FAQ GROUP

Commercial projects

Does every business need batteries?

No. Solar may be used mainly for daytime savings. Batteries become more relevant where continuity or use outside solar-production hours matters.

Can a rented property install solar?

Potentially, but landlord approval, roof rights, lease terms, equipment ownership and electrical responsibilities should be clarified.

Does KYN guarantee commercial savings?

No. Savings depend on consumption, tariffs, design, operating behaviour, site conditions and project cost.

Assessment and service

What should I submit first?

A recent electricity bill, property location, main objective, load priorities and existing equipment details are the strongest first inputs.

Does an online assessment guarantee a quotation?

No. The initial review determines whether more information or technical assessment is required.

Where does KYN Energy operate?

KYN Energy currently focuses on Cape Town and selected areas across the Western Cape.
