AC

Alternating current, commonly used by household and business equipment.

Battery capacity

The energy a battery can store, commonly shown in kilowatt-hours.

Battery management system

The system that monitors and protects battery operation.

Depth of discharge

The proportion of stored battery energy used before recharging.

Essential loads

Selected circuits or equipment prioritised for backup.

Firmware

Software embedded in equipment such as an inverter or battery.

Grid-tied solar

A system designed to operate with the grid and normally shut down during outages without suitable backup.

Hybrid inverter

An inverter that manages more than one energy source or operating route.

A unit of power describing the rate of electricity use or production.

Load

Inverter technology used to manage solar-panel operating conditions.

Peak demand

The highest level of power required during a defined period.

Solar array

A group of connected solar panels.

State of charge

An estimate of battery energy remaining, usually shown as a percentage.

Three-phase supply

An electrical supply configuration commonly used for larger loads.

Usable battery capacity

The portion of battery capacity available after system limits and reserves.
